Construction Machinery Tuning and ECU Remapping

We remap the engine control unit (ECU) of excavators, loaders, backhoe loaders, telehandlers and forklifts to improve power, torque and fuel efficiency. The original software is backed up and the calibration stays within the limits of the engine and hydraulic system.

What is construction machinery tuning?

ECU software work on a Scania truck and a Doosan excavator in the workshop

Construction machinery tuning is the recalibration of the fuel, injection, boost pressure and torque limiter maps in the diesel engine's control unit (ECU) to suit the work the machine does. It is also called an ECU remap; no hardware is changed, only the software.

In construction machines, engine power goes straight to the hydraulic pump. When engine speed drops under load, the bucket, boom and travel slow down. A correct calibration helps the engine hold its speed under load, which shows in cycle times and in work done per hour.

The gain depends on the machine, the engine and the ECU. Instead of quoting a fixed figure, we read the machine's original file first and tell you what is achievable for that file.

What changes after the remap?

More power under load

Engine speed drops less when digging hard ground, with a full bucket and when travelling uphill.

Faster hydraulic response

When the engine holds its speed, pump flow does not fall away; boom, bucket and slew respond more quickly.

Fuel efficiency

When the same job is done in less time or at lower revs, fuel used per hour can improve, depending on the work and the operator.

Less downtime

Fault codes (DTC), immobiliser and checksum work are handled in one workshop, so the machine is back on site sooner.

Return to stock

The original ECU software is archived and the machine can be returned to factory settings on request.

File service for workshops

Service centres and workshops can send the file they have read through our dealer platform and receive the processed file back.

Which machines is it for?

  • Tracked and wheeled excavators
  • Wheel loaders and skid-steer loaders
  • Backhoe loaders
  • Telehandlers and forklifts
  • Mobile cranes, road sweepers and municipal vehicles
  • Industrial diesel engines

PROCESS

How it is done

Diagnosis

Fault codes and live data are read and the vehicle's condition is checked.

Backup

The original ECU software is read and safely archived.

Software

A vehicle-specific file is prepared and the checksum corrected.

Write & test

The file is written and verified with a road test and data logging.

Support

The original file is kept; the vehicle can be returned to stock at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Does tuning damage a construction machine's engine?
A correct calibration stays within the limits of the engine, turbocharger and hydraulic system. Damage comes from excessive settings that ignore those limits, not from the software itself. That is why we work on each machine's own original file and do not load generic files.
How much extra power can a machine gain?
It depends on the machine, the engine and the ECU. We confirm the exact figures after reading the machine's original file.
How is fuel consumption affected?
For the same job it usually does not increase, and it may fall because the work is done in less time or at lower revs. Consumption depends on how the extra power is used.
Does the machine have to come to the workshop?
On most machines the software is read and written through the diagnostic socket; some ECUs are removed and processed on the bench. Ask your nearest branch about on-site service.
What about warranty, and can it be returned to stock?
A software change may affect the manufacturer's warranty, so check your warranty terms before deciding. The original software is kept and the machine can be returned to factory settings on request.
Which construction machinery brands do you work on?
We work on many brands, including Volvo, Aebi Schmidt, JCB, Bobcat, Manitou, Volvo Penta Industrial, John Deere and Zoomlion. For models not listed, simply send us the ECU type.
